What a chaotic, heart-pounding afternoon in West Yorkshire. Coming off Tuesday's 6-1 midweek cup routing of Birmingham, Keith Andrews’ Bees were forced to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road.
For the first 45 minutes, Brentford put on a masterclass in away control, smothering Leeds with an unprecedented 62% possession and completely silencing the home crowd. But a combination of baffling refereeing decisions, missed second-half chances, and mounting pressure from Leeds ultimately denied us all three points.

The match kicked off at a blistering pace. Inside 30 seconds, Mamadou Sangaré won possession in midfield and fed Mikkel Damsgaard, who whipped a cross into Kevin Schade, though Schade couldn't quite make a clean connection. Ten minutes in, Damsgaard recycled a blocked corner and floated a secondary cross to the back post, where Nathan Collins rose high to force a saved header from James Trafford.
In the 11th minute, absolute controversy erupted. Damsgaard launched a brilliant long through-ball for Schade, who comfortably beat his defender to the ball before being completely wiped out from behind by a retreating Leeds marker. Because the rolling ball carried through to Jaidon Anthony, whose eventual shot was blocked by recovering defenders, the referee played advantage and refused to bring the play back for a foul or red card, leaving Keith Andrews dumbfounded in the technical area.
Brentford continued to suffocate the hosts. Damsgaard forced a great save from Trafford in the 14th minute after sitting down his marker, and in the 24th minute, Sangaré latched onto a punched corner clearance to unleash a thunderous 20-yard strike that was blocked by a wall of white shirts. The Bees finally got their breakthrough in the 41st minute off a relentless, multi-phase sequence. After another Sangaré strike was blocked, the recycled ball rolled out to Keane Lewis-Potter on the left flank. KLP whipped a first-time cross back into the danger zone, where Kevin Schade applied the deftest of flicked touches to steer the ball into the top right corner of the Leeds net!

Leeds boss Daniel Farke introduced Tanaka and Harry Wilson at the break, and the hosts came out aggressive, pinning Brentford back for the opening ten minutes of the second half. Caoíomhín Kelleher was called into action in the 64th minute, producing a spectacular, fingertip diving save to his near post to preserve the lead.
Refining our shape, Brentford looked to hit on the break. In the 73rd minute, Leeds nearly caught the Bees exposed when Dan James broke free from the halfway line. However, Keane Lewis-Potter produced the defensive play of the match, sprinting half the length of the pitch to throw his body in front of James' strike just as the Welshman pulled the trigger.
Despite heroic defending from Kristoffer Ajer (who earned a tactical yellow in the 74th minute to stop Nmecha), Leeds' mounting pressure eventually paid dividends in the 79th minute. Nmecha received the ball from a cross, touched around Nathan Collins in the penalty and put in a perfect squared ball through the six-yard box. Calvert-Lewin made no mistakes with his tap-in in front of goal, and the scores were level. It looked like there was a possibility of offside on Nmecha’s pass, but a wandering Kevin Schade near the corner flag after the initial cross into Nmecha was the reason the goal stood.

The Bees responded almost immediately. Just two minutes after the equalizer, substitute Dango Ouattara beat his man down the right and delivered a floating cross to Igor Thiago. Thiago connected with a powerful header that Trafford saved, but the rebound fell straight back to the Brazilian, who agonizingly scuffed the follow-up wide of the post. Two minutes later, Thiago stripped Anton Stach and looked to be clean through on goal, only for the linesman to raise a very generous soft foul flag.
In stoppage time, substitute Callum Wilson controlled a cross and was clattered by a Leeds defender inside the six-yard box, but VAR deemed the defender got a slight touch on the ball first. A late Nathan Collins booking for an unnecessary collision with Harry Wilson, leading to a dangerous Anton Stach free kick, capped off a wild finish as the points were shared.
💪 Four Points, Still Unbeaten, and Plenty to Build On
While leaving Elland Road with a point is rarely a bad outcome in the Premier League, the overwhelming feeling after this match is frustration. Brentford looked like the far superior side for large stretches, completely dominating the midfield battle and carving out high-quality chances.
Still, taking four points from our opening two Premier League fixtures while putting six past Birmingham in the cup represents an excellent start to the season. Keith Andrews has this squad playing with courage, dominant midfield possession, and serious tactical flexibility.
